Leeds United are leading Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur among other clubs in the race for Linfield youngster Charlie Allen, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post.

Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City all are interested in signing Allen in the summer transfer window, according to the report.

However, it has been claimed that it is Leeds who are leading the chase for the attacking player and have a “good chance” of clinching his signature this summer.

Good signing for Leeds United?

Allen is only 16 years of age, and it is clear that the Northern Irish teenager is far from the finished article and would not establish himself in the first team for a fair few years.

However, there is no doubt that the youngster – who can operate in midfield or as a forward – would be a very good long-term signing for the Whites and would develop further in the academy at Leeds.

Former Ipswich Town and Northern Ireland international midfielder Jim Magilton is the elite performance director for the Irish Football Association, and he rates Allen highly.

Magilton told The Yorkshire Evening Post about Allen: “Technically very good and physically can handle it – he is quick enough and he has a real chance. Great attitude, enthusiastic, and applies himself every day.”
