Rangers are reportedly keen on bringing Lewis Gibson to Ibrox.

Rangers are already planning January moves, with new director of football Ross Wilson no doubt identifying potential targets for Steven Gerrard.

The latest name in the mix is Everton talent Lewis Gibson, with the back pages of the Scottish Daily Star, Scottish Daily Express and Daily Record (18/10) claiming that the Gers are eyeing a January move.

Gibson is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning that whilst Everton struck a deal worth £6million to sign him in 2017, he could leave for just £240,000.

Rangers can striker a pre-contract agreement in January with Gibson, and cross-border contract rules mean that the Gers can strike a bargain deal through compensation.

Gibson, 19, came up through the Newcastle ranks, before deciding to leave his hometown club for a move to Everton in 2017, attempting to progress at Goodison Park.

However, he hasn’t played a single Premier League game for Everton, and with first-team chances unlikely under Marco Silva, there’s a strong chance he could go.

Everton fans think it would be ‘criminal’ to lose Gibson, believing that the defender – who can play at centre back or left back – will leave the club to play first-team football elsewhere, with Silva and Marcel Brands both criticised.

Meanwhile, Rangers supporters think that Gibson would be an excellent signing with real potential for the future, though there is some bemusement at Steven Gerrard looking to bring in another centre back, given that it’s such an area of strength at Ibrox.
