A reported Rangers and Celtic target made an under the radar move on Monday.

Teamtalk claimed in May that Rangers and Celtic were weighing up offers for the Zulte Waregem striker, Saido Berahino.

The website stated that Steven Gerrard and Neil Lennon’s sides had watched Berahino before the Belgian season was brought to a premature end by Covid-19.

Rangers and Celtic were thought to be facing difficult summers with clubs showing interest in the respective Ibrox and Parkhead strikers, Alfredo Morelos and Odsonne Edouard.

But even though both players stayed put in the end, Rangers (Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten) and Celtic (Albian Ajeti) still went and strengthened their options in the pair’s position.

That ensured there was no room on either side of Glasgow for Berahino, who ended up signing for Sporting Charleroi.

The 27-year-old former West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City man has been a success in Belgium, having scored or assisted 14 goals in 30 games for Zulte.

But he will spend at last the rest of this season on loan from the fourth-from-bottom side to the surprise league leaders, who have an option to turn his deal permanent next summer.

Whether Rangers or Celtic will continue to monitor his progress – assuming of course that Teamtalk‘s claim was accurate – only time will tell.
