Steven Gerrard’s Rangers and Neil Lennon’s Celtic are interested in Manchester United attacking player Jesse Lingard, according to TEAMtalk.

Rangers and Celtic are looking into the possibility of signing Lingard – who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger – in the January transfer window, according to the report.

The England international – described by former United coach Rene Meulensteen as “the English version of Iniesta”, as quoted in talkSPORT in January 2019 – is claimed to be open to leaving the Red Devils when the transfer window opens in January, having struggled for playing time so far this season.

The report has added that Lingard is out of contract at United in the summer of 2021, but the Premier League giants have the option to extend it by 12 months.

Too expensive for Rangers and Celtic?

It is quite ambitious of Rangers and Celtic to reportedly look into the possibility of signing the 27-year-old, who has not quite lived up to comparisons with Barcelona and Spain legend Andres Iniesta.

The wages of the England international – who has made just two EFL Cup appearances this season – are probably too high for the Old Firm clubs. According to Spotrac, Lingard earns £75,000 per week as salary at United.
