Aidan Fitzpatrick is a very talented and promising young winger, and there was no surprise when reports emerged that Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers and Neil Lennon’s Celtic were on the hunt for the 18-year-old.

The Daily Record claimed last month that Old Firm duo Rangers and Celtic were trailing the 18-year-old, who had shown encouraging signs at Partick Thistle despite making a handful of appearances for the first team.

The 18-year-old winger can only improve and develop in the coming years, and with both Rangers and Celtic having strong youth systems, one suspects that many will have expected the Scotland Under-18 international to make the move to either of the Old Firm clubs.

However, it is Norwich City in England who have won the race to the signature of Fitzpatrick. As announced on the promoted Premier League club’s official website, the youngster has joined the Canaries and will initially join up with David Wright’s Under-23 squad.

Rangers and Celtic, though, should continue to monitor Fitzpatrick’s development at Norwich, and perhaps make moves in the coming years.
