Rangers and Celtic should be disappointed to have missed out on imminent Sunderland signing.

Sunderland’s imminent signing of Scottish wonderkid Matthew Knox should leave both Rangers and Celtic asking questions.

The Daily Record report Knox is set to sign from Livingston after a successful trial spell at the club.

Knox is rated as one of Scottish football’s most promising young talents and was previously linked to Manchester United.

The Daily Record reported last summer that Rangers tried to bring him to Ibrox and had a bid of £75,000 rejected by Livingston.

Knox admitted at the time he was a big Celtic fans and grew up idolising Henrik Larsson, although insisted this would not stop him joining the Gers.

The 18-year-old forward is a Scotland youth international who has already played for Livingston’s first team, and is a low risk signing for Sunderland.

Rangers should be kicking themselves for not upping their bid last summer, while he is a player Celtic should have looked at taking a chance on too.

It is up to Knox to prove it was a mistake; and if he does become a success at Sunderland, it will only reinforce the notion that Scotland’s two most successful clubs have missed out on a gem.
