Steven Gerrard’s Rangers and Neil Lennon’s Celtic may not reportedly be able to sign Ivan Toney before September 1.
Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry told The Daily Mail (print edition, page 79, June 9, 2020) that Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic want to sign the former Newcastle United striker in the summer transfer window (click here to read more).
Fry said that he has had agents tell him that Rangers and Celtic are “very interested” in the striker.
The Scottish Sun also reported in June that scouts from the Gers and the Hoops have watched the 24-year-old striker in action.
However, according to The Peterborough Telegraph, Toney may not make a switch from Peterborough to another club before September 1.
Although the Posh are keen on selling the striker, according to the report, the 24-year-old’s new representatives take over on September 1, meaning that they would miss out financially if a move happened before then.

With the new Scottish Premiership campaign starting in August, it seems that Rangers and Celtic will have to wait for at least a month thereafter if they are to sign Toney.
Meanwhile, Peterborough owner Darragh MacAnthony has dismissed a recent report claiming that Brentford’s bid of £5 million for Toney has been accepted.
