Could this be Jordan Rossiter’s year at Rangers?

Jack Wilshere of Arsenal is chased by N'Golo Kante of Chelsea during the Carabao Cup Semi-Final Second Leg at Emirates Stadium on January 24, 2018 in London, England.

With Jack Wilshere becoming a free agent, there have been some overly ambitious hopes from Rangers fans that Steven Gerrard could bring him to Ibrox.

Such calls are understandable given Gerrard’s pull, and Rangers hopes to change their fortunes, but Wilshere is likely to have bigger plans.

A blow for Rangers? Not exactly, as the Gers already have their own Wilshere, Jordan Rossiter.

Like Wilshere, Rossiter is terribly injury prone. That is not where the comparisons end.

Rossiter is a talented ball playing midfielder, comfortable in possession with an eye for a pass.

His performances for the under-20s at the end of last season were hailed by coach Billy Kirkwood, who told Rangers’ official website: that Rossiter’s displays were ‘fantastic’ and his approach ‘second to none’.

Rangers fans have barely seen him so far in the first team, this could be the year his luck turns.

New boss Steven Gerrard knows him from their time at Liverpool together, and the manager knows a thing or two about playing in central midfield.

Wilshere of course would be an impressive addition but it is not happening.

Rossiter can be Rangers’ own version and if he can get past his injury problems, the comparisons will be focused on their positive shared traits rather than their fitness battles.
