Rangers were hammered 3-0 away at bitter rivals Celtic on Wednesday night – and the decision to leave Aaron Ramsey out has been questioned by Ally McCoist.
The Gers completely fell flat at Parkhead, failing to respond to the 3-3 draw at Ross County over the weekend.
Reo Hatate’s two long-range goals put Celtic 2-0 up before Liel Abada wrapped up the scoring and the three points before half time.
Rangers just had absolutely no answer as Celtic blew them away, with the Gers losing their grip on top spot in the Scottish Premiership.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst now faces a little bit of pressure; such is life as manager of one of Glasgow’s big two.
The Dutchman will at least be able to call upon his big signing very soon, with Aaron Ramsey joining Rangers on deadline day.
Nobody can have expected Ramsey to pitch up at Ibrox on deadline, but he has arrived on loan from Juventus until the end of the season.
The former Arsenal ace can provide a real goal threat from midfield if fit, which has been a problem throughout his career.
On Wednesday though, Ramsey was sat in the stands at Parkhead, helpless as Rangers completely capitulated against their bitter rivals.
Just seconds into the game, pundit and former Rangers boss Ally McCoist was asked for his take on Ramsey being left out.
McCoist told Sky Sports that he was surprised Ramsey wasn’t even in the squad, believing it would have sent a real psychological message to Celtic.
Ramsey at least trained with Rangers on Tuesday, so McCoist feels Van Bronckhorst should have thrown him into the squad for some real positivity.
“I’ve got to be honest, I certainly am,” said McCoist. “I thought, even for a psychological message, if he was remotely fit – and they said he trained yesterday with the Rangers team – I’m surprised he’s not on the bench, I’ve got to be quite frank about that,” he added.
