Rangers ‘kept calling’ for Icelandic defender Finnur Tomas Palmason – at least according to his advisor.
Palmason is the star talent at KR Reykjavik, and he will take on Celtic in the Champions League qualifying first round tonight.
The 19-year-old has been tipped for a huge future, and tonight could be a very important night for the defender.
The Times note that Palmason joined Celtic on trial in November 2017, and Brendan Rodgers wanted to bring him back for a second look in January 2018.
However, KR needed him for their league campaign, so didn’t let him return to Celtic – and the Bhoys would seemingly face competition now.
Rangers took Palmason on trial earlier this year, and his time with the Gers was only cut short by a broken bone in his foot.
Now, advisor Olaf Thordarson has told The Times that Rangers ‘kept calling’ for Palmason even after his trial ended abruptly, and claims that his injury prevented him from making a big move.
“They kept calling him,” says Thordarson. “They were very professional but also very human. But for the injury, he would have already signed for a European club.”

Palmason will be looking to impress Celtic and Rangers tonight, and if anyone wanted to know just how highly regarded the teenager is, then ex-Bhoys striker Kjartan Finnbogason’s comments some up it up.
“Maybe [Virgil] Van Dijk,” said Kjartansson when asked to compare Palmason to somebody. “He’s very calm on the ball and fast over the first couple of metres. He needs some experience under his belt so I hope for him that he will be able to play in this game,” he added.
