Rangers keeper Allan McGregor was the hero as he was named Rangers TV man of the match following the 2-0 win over Celtic in the Scottish Cup, saving a penalty and pulling off a string of impressive saves to help Steven Gerrard’s side into the quarter-finals.
Goals from Steven Davis and a Jonjoe Kenny own goal booked the Gers’ place against St. Johnstone next weekend and McGregor’s penalty stop from Odsonne Edouard was a big talking point after the game as he racked up yet another Old Firm save from the spot.
McGregor has made a few famous penalty saves over the years but insisted, in his own understated way, that it’s just a “lucky dip” when you face an opponent from 12 yards.
The veteran shotstopper also looked ahead to next weekend’s clash with the Saints, expecting a tough game against a well-drilled Perth side who have already lifted the League Cup this season.
“There’s no work that goes in. They get a penalty and you go left, right, or down the middle. Lucky dip, isn’t it?” McGregor said to Rangers TV.
“Cup competitions are different. Anything can happen. They are a well organised side and they’ve already won a trophy this season and finished in the top six.
“I know their manager and coaches so they’ll have them well drilled and they are a decent side.”
