Rangers considered appointing Alexander Blessin last year and he is now fighting for his job with Italian club Genoa.
The Gers were looking for a new manager having lost Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa.
Rangers ended up going with Giovanni van Bronckhorst as he made a return to Ibrox.
Despite reaching the Europa League final last season, Van Bronckhorst has today been sacked by Rangers.
The Gers are now back in the market for another manager and one boss they considered last year may be available.
Rangers considered appointing Alexander Blessin
The Daily Record reported in November of last year that Rangers had Alexander Blessin on their radar.
The German coach was in charge of Belgian side Oostende at the time but Rangers went with Van Bronckhorst.
Blessin earned a strong reputation in Belgium and did so well that he ended up becoming the Genoa boss.
Blessin couldn’t save Genoa from relegation into Serie B but he was trusted to launch a promotion campaign.
Genoa sit third in Serie B but are already seven points off top spot.
Genoa have also claimed just two points from their last three games and Blessin is under huge pressure.
La Voce di Genova report that this coming weekend’s game against Perugia is key.
It’s suggested that, if Genoa can’t even beat Serie B’s bottom club then Blessin is likely to be given his marching orders.
This news comes just as Rangers look to find a new manager of their own.
Blessin impressed Rangers before his move to Genoa and will surely still be on Ross Wilson’s radar.
Blessin was a highly-rated coach in the RB Leipzig youth ranks before heading to Oostende, where he secured an impress fifth-placed finish in 2021.
If Blessin does become available by the end of the week, maybe the 49-year-old will earn another look from the Gers even with his mixed record in Italy.
