Former Rangers star Alex Rae was in jubilant mood after the Light Blues cruised to a 2-0 win over Celtic in the Scottish Cup at Ibrox – boasting that ‘Glasgow is blue tonight.’
Steven Davis’ overhead kick and a Jonjoe Kenny own goal had Steven Gerrard’s side in a comfortable position and they will now host St. Johnstone next weekend in the quarter-finals.
Rae was full of praise on Twitter for veteran duo Steven Davis and Allan McGregor, saying Davis “bossed the middle of the park” against Celtic skipper Scott Brown.
The result ends Celtic’s hopes of lifting any silverware this season as Rangers aim for their first league and Scottish Cup double since 2008/09 and cap off an outstanding season for the Light Blues.
Davis put in an outstanding shift and rolled back the years as the Northern Irish international strolled through the game and drove Rangers on to a comfortable win.
The most capped British international was only pipped to the Man of the Match award by McGregor after the keeper pulled of a string of saves before denying Odsonne Edouard from the penalty spot with ten minutes left.
