Rangers are interested Alex Kpakpe, who was inspired to become a footballer by Tottenham Hotspur ace Ryan Sessegnon.

That sentence alone will make a lot of readers feel very, very old.

Sessegnon came up as a wonderkid at Fulham not that long ago and is still only 22 himself.

Yet here we are, Sessegnon has managed to inspire another youngster to become a football.

Rangers target Kpakpe has a special connection to Sessegnon though.

Kpakpe is the younger cousin of both Ryan and Steven Sessegnon, who came through the ranks at Fulham.

Kpakpe emerged at West London rivals Chelsea and told their official website that seeing how good the Sessegnon brothers were as kids made him want to become a footballer.

Whilst Sessegnon cost Tottenham around £25million and remains an important first-team player under Antonio Conte, Kpakpe is having to go down a different route.

The 18-year-old is a free agent after being let go by Chelsea and is now hoping for an opportunity with Rangers.

Rangers taking a look at signing Kpakpe

Kpakpe is even a left back just like Sessegnon and he is now attracting interest.

The Athletic reported earlier this week that Rangers are interested in signing Kpakpe as an academy addition.

It’s stated that Kpakpe has already played in a bounce game for Rangers and he will be hoping to have done enough to win a deal.

New Rangers boss Michael Beale still has strong ties to the Chelsea academy setup from his time coaching there.

It may well be that an old connection has tipped him off about Kpakpe, who joined Chelsea at Under-14 level.

Reaching Sessegnon’s level in the Premier League may still be the dream but Kpakpe could yet become a first-team star for Rangers.

Kpakpe now faces a nervous wait to find out whether Rangers want to give him a contract, and the Sessegnon brothers will be supporting him all the way.
