Rangers goalkeeper discusses his fitness issues.

Wes Foderingham of Rangers looks on during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers FC and Celtic FC at Ibrox Stadium on September 23, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has told the club’s official website that he will have to carefully manage his recurring shoulder injury through the season.

Foderingham missed crucial games at the end of last season with injury, as Jak Alnwick stepped into his place.

He now says he is fully fit, but adds that his shoulder injury could recur if not managed effectively.

Foderingham said: “I struggled with a shoulder injury last season, and I just needed a period of time for it to settle down and then see a specialist.

“I am feeling a lot better now but it is probably something I am going to have to manage throughout the season, but everything is looking good at the minute.”

Foderingham now has additional competition for a starting spot after veteran Allan McGregor re-signed for the club from Hull City.

New manager Steven Gerrard is yet to indicate who will be his number one heading into the season, but will have to decide quickly with the club’s first Europa League qualifier taking place on July 12.

Foderingham’s comments about having to manage his shoulder injury suggests the problem is not 100 per cent dealt with.

He will only know how easy it is to deal with when he gets out and plays competitively, if he is given the chance to do so regularly.
