The experienced striker is expected to have a huge impact for Glasgow Rangers.

Rangers man Scott Arfield spoke to reporters about the impact that Jermain Defoe has already made at Ibrox, highlighting how fit and sharp he has looked in training so far, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times.

The 36-year-old joined the Gers on an 18-month loan deal from Bournemouth earlier this month, and many are tipping Steven Gerrard’s men to push Celtic all the way this season as a direct result of the Englishman’s arrival.

Defoe has scored 292 career goals for club and country, and he will be desperate to prove that he has what it takes to fire Rangers to their 55th top flight title.

Arfield is certainly a big fan of the former Tottenham hitman.

The Canada international told reporters how Defoe has already set a shining example to the younger players in the Rangers squad, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times:

“He’s brought a wealth of experience. You can see in training just how quick and sharp he is. The young centre-backs we’ve got haven’t played against someone like Defoe. His movement to get into positions others wouldn’t it. I could see from the first training session. It makes the young boys look to him and know what it takes to be as fit as 36. He lives his life so cleanly and the other players will see what level they need to be at.”

Defoe could make his first competitive appearance for Rangers tonight, when Steven Gerrard’s men travel to Kilmarnock, and he will be desperate to open his goalscoring account in Scottish football.
