Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he is suffering from fatigue, but doesn’t want to lose his place.

The Gers drew 0-0 at Kilmarnock on Saturday evening, meaning their Scottish Cup clash will have to go to a replay at Ibrox next week.

Rangers did squander one great chance as James Tavernier’s penalty was saved by Daniel Bachmann, but it wasn’t a great Rangers performance on the whole.

One issue that many fans spotted was the performance of midfielder Arfield, who has been out of form since returning from the winter break.

The Canadian international was superb against Celtic in December, but hasn’t hit those heights again in 2019, and it’s becoming something of a problem for Steven Gerrard.

Steven Davis isn’t up to speed yet and Glen Kamara is still working on his fitness, meaning Arfield may end up having to continue playing as one of the more experienced options in the Rangers midfield.

Fans have not been impressed with Arfield of late, and he has at least offered something of an explanation in the aftermath of Saturday’s game.

Arfield has suggested that he is suffering from fatigue, but daren’t drop out because he may lose his place, which may be to the detriment of Rangers as a team if he can’t regain his form, whilst he also added a comical interaction with the club’s physio about the situation.

“If you drop out of the team at any given moment, you have a player there that can take your jersey,” said Arfield. “That is the standard in terms of character and ability in the team so as soon as you get in there, you play to keep that jersey.”

“Everything is f*****! That is what the physio told me! It is fatigue, but that is what happens when you play as many games as we have on the back of the break that we had,” he added.
