Rangers defender Nikola Katic is impressing at Ibrox.
Rangers defender Nikola Katic has told Sportske Novosti, as translated by The Scottish Sun, that he thinks his first season at Ibrox has gone ‘okay’, but pointed out his ‘really great’ statistics.
The Gers needed defensive reinforcements last summer, and decided to raid Slaven Belupo in order to lure Katic to Ibrox.
Katic, 22, picked up his first Croatia cap in 2017, and whilst he missed out on the World Cup, he still earned his big move by joining Rangers.
The centre back has been in and out of the Rangers side for much of the season, but has recently re-established himself back in the Rangers defence towards the end of the campaign.
Katic has made five starts in a row, helping keep four clean sheets in that run whilst conceding just the one goal, and he also found the net against Hearts.
After a lengthy spell out of the side, Katic is now showing enough to suggest that he can be a first-choice defender for Rangers next season alongside Connor Goldson.
Katic has now admitted that there have been ups and downs, but pointed out that his statistics have been ‘really great’, keeping clean sheets in half of his games in the team, with his overall verdict that the season has been ‘okay’.
“There were ups and downs. It started well, I was playing constantly but then two new defenders came in and there was a lot of rotation,” said Katic. “However when I add it up, I played 30 games in all competitions this season. We didn’t concede in 15 of those games and only lost twice.”
“So my statistics are really great. It was my first season at this great club and when you play for such a club, the pressure is enormous. So overall, everything was okay,” he added.
