Rangers manager Steven Gerrard brought the defender into Ibrox on a free transfer this summer.

Rangers defender Jon Flanagan spoke to reporters after his side’s hard-fought 2-0 win over St Mirren at Ibrox yesterday, and offered high words of praise for Steven Gerrard, admitting that his relationship with his fellow scouser is bound to change, as quoted by BT Sport.

The Gers finished last season in 3rd position in the Scottish Premiership table, a full 12 points adrift of their bitter rivals and league winners Celtic, but many believe that with Gerrard now at the helm, they will push Brendan Rodgers’ side all the way.

Rangers are certainly a stronger outfit than they were last term, with Gerrard having brought 11 new faces into Ibrox this summer.

Flanagan was one of the new arrivals, joining the Glasgow giants on a free transfer, and he seems to be loving life at Ibrox.

The full-back played with Gerrard during his time at Liverpool, so he knows the former Reds skipper well.

The 25-year-old spoke to reporters after his side’s 2-0 win over St Mirren, and highlighted how much of a pleasure it has been for him playing under his former teammate, as quoted by BT Sport:

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is seen during the Pre-Season Friendly match between Rangers and Wigan Athletic at Ibrox Stadium on July 29, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“I think (our relationship is) bound to change. He’s the gaffer now. He’s not Steven to me anymore. He’s come in, he’s done really well. He’s had a little taste of it at Liverpool with the Under-18s there but all the lads here are really enjoying it and I think he’s done a good job so far. He’s the manager and I’m the player now. It’s not as it was as when we were both players. But I think he’s doing a great job and I hope it continues.”

Next up for Rangers is a trip to Maribor for the second leg of their Europa League qualifying tie, and Flanagan will be hoping for another chance to prove to his old teammate and now boss what he is truly capable of.
