The former Glasgow Rangers captain is back at Ibrox, and his new teammate thinks the midfielder will bring several key qualities to the dressing room.
Rangers ace Joe Worrall has named several key qualities he feels Steven Davis will bring to the Scottish Premiership club’s dressing room.
The Southampton midfielder returns to Ibrox having won eight domestic honours in his previous spell at the club from January 2008 to the summer of 2012.
Davis also captained the Light Blues and has done the same at international level, winning over 100 international caps with Northern Ireland.
He is one of two major signings made by Gers boss Steven Gerrard this January, with veteran England striker Jermain Defoe arriving on loan from Bournemouth.
With Rangers still very much in contention for first place and bitter rivals Celtic looking more likely to relinquish the title than ever, Worrall is delighted to see two high-quality players come to the club to help their cause.
After describing Defoe’s goalscoring record as “phenomenal” to the official Gers website, he talked at length about Davis’ qualities.
“Davis is experienced, he’s been here, he loves Rangers and that’s what we need,” said Worrall. “He’ll be a spearhead in the dressing room, he’ll be digging lads out and coaxing them along and that’s what everyone needs, including myself.
“But he adds quality as well. He’s not just a shouter or an experienced player, he’s more of a leader in the dressing room and he’ll get the best out of some of the boys and he’ll add some flair on the pitch as well.”
Rangers return to action on January 18 with a Scottish Cup fourth-round tie against Cowdenbeath before travelling to fellow Scottish Premiership title challengers Kilmarnock in the league five days later.
