Rangers defender James Tavernier scored as the Gers beat Maribor at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers produced an impressive performance to defeat Maribor at Ibrox.
It was the club’s first leg of the club’s third qualifying round match and the Gers won 3-1 against the Slovenians.
Alfredo Morelos scored early on before Maribor netted an away goal to equalise before half-time.
James Tavernier then scored a penalty in the 50th minute before summer signing Lassana Coulibaly scored a tie changing third goal in the 86th minute.
Club captain Tavernier sent a message on Twitter to fans after the game praising his teammates and reflecting on the tasks ahead.
Rangers face St Mirren in the league this weekend and will be desperate to record another win after being cruelly denied in their opener against Aberdeen a week earlier.
Tavernier’s performance deserves particular praise after he was subject of transfer speculation in the lead up to the game.
That could have distracted him and derailed the team but the right-back ignored the chatter and went on to lead by example and deliver a fantastic performance for the Gers.
