Rangers defender signed a one year deal at Ibrox.

Rangers signed Gareth McAuley as a free agent last summer in what could have been a shrewd move.

Instead the move has left fans at Ibrox disappointed, with McAuley struggling to make an impact.

McAuley has made only 10 appearances for Rangers. Only two of those have come in 2019, back in January.

Now he has suffered a hamstring injury, manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed.

Sadly for McAuley, he is running out of chances to extend his career at Rangers, and as a whole.

He is 39 and his contract expires in the summer. His contract expires in December.

Over the past two seasons he has managed only 22 appearances combined.

His age is finally catching up with him, with injuries blighting his Rangers spell. Now at a worst case scenario he could be out for over a month.

If Rangers decide they don’t want him back, having already quit English football, he could be struggling for options and choose to retire.

Gareth McAuley of Rangers arrives prior to the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Livingston and Rangers at Tony Macaroni Arena on January 27, 2019 in Livingston, United Kingdom.
