On-loan Rangers striker Jason Cummings has told the club’s official website that he will be fit to face Old Firm rivals Celtic next weekend after picking up cramp during the 4-1 win over Falkirk.

The 22-year-old netted an excellent hat-trick, taking his tally to five goals for the Scottish giants since moving on loan to Ibrox from Nottingham Forest in January until the end of the season.

He opened the scoring before restoring Rangers lead in the 22nd minute after the Gers conceded a fluke goal via a deflection from Falkirk captain Aaron Muirhead. Falkirk then scored an own goal before the break.

Cummings completed his hat-trick in the second half after a terrible miss from Alfredo Morelos, but picked up cramp late on as he completed his first 90 minutes for Rangers. He told the club’s website, though, that he will be fit to face Celtic.

“I was knackered, I was hitting a wee bit of cramp at the end there and I haven’t had that much game time this season so I started to feel it at the end. I’ll be fully recovered for next weekend – I’ll be back,” Cummings said.

“Obviously I want to start every week, that is what I came here to do but at the end of the day it is up to the gaffer. It is something I have always wanted to do [play against Celtic] and it is a big game, a big occasion and I would love it.”

Colombian striker Morelos appeared to lose his shooting boots against the Scottish Championship side, missing a hatful of chances and that could now tempt Graeme Murty into choosing Cummings on Sunday at Ibrox.

The Gers play host to Brendan Rodgers’ side in a match that could be crucial in terms of a Scottish Premiership title race. If Rangers win, they could close the gap to just three points with Celtic boasting a game in hand.
