Rangers ace Jak Alnwick speaks on the competition for places at Ibrox.
Rangers goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has compared the club’s strength in depth to his time at Newcastle.
Speaking specifically about the goalkeeping situation, Alnwick says this Rangers squad is as strong as he can remember it.
Alnwick is one of four players competing for a spot, along with Wes Foderingham, Allan McGregor, and Robby McCrorie.
He told Rangers’ official website: “It is great competition for all four of us.
“I was just thinking about how competitive this group is recently and think it is similar to the Newcastle United group I was part of. At the time we had Tim Krul, Steve Harper, Fraser Forster and me.
“It was a similar situation as Harps was a little bit older, Fraser had been out on loan a couple of times, as had Tim. It is a similar type of group but it is all good competition for all of us to push each other.”
Alnwick was one of the odd men out at Newcastle and ended up leavng when his contract expired.
He rebuilt his career with Port Vale, earning a move to Rangers, where he has been a back-up.
Alnwick could be third or even fourth choice at the Gers next season, but at this early stage he feels like there is all to play for and is happy to battle for his spot.
