Work has begun at the Ibrox side’s training facility, with Steven Gerrard’s Rangers first team set to profit.
Academy head Craig Mulholland has explained how Rangers’ new facility should benefit Steven Gerrard’s first team.
Work has commenced on a new stand at Rangers’ Hummel Training Centre, which will see the number of dressing rooms doubled.
And Mulholland is expecting the calibre of player produced by the Ibrox outfit to increase because of that.
Speaking to RangersTV on Tuesday, Mulholland thanked those behind the project, before explaining: “I think from a football perspective, the biggest thing is to make sure we get more players in the building more often, and the new dressing rooms and education suite will do that.
“I think the biggest purpose of it is to make sure that we can get our teams training more regularly, and to do that, we will need bigger facilities.
“We have five pitches here, but only four dressing rooms. So eight dressing rooms will mean we get more teams in more often, and the more they have a ball at their feet, the better Rangers players they will become.”
It is only two years since Mulholland admitted that the then Rangers manager, Mark Warburton, was unable to come to him for players, with an overhaul of the club’s youth system having taken place only 18 months earlier.
But he recently tipped six Ibrox youngsters – Glenn Middleton, Stephen Kelly, Ross McCrorie, Robbie McCrorie, Cammy Palmer and Jack Thomson – to become first team regulars in the near future.
Another Rangers prospect, Serge Atakayi, made his first team bow against Motherwell on Sunday.
