American goalkeeper Aaron Cervantes became the first player to make a permanent move to Rangers from the Gers’ US partners Orange County SC, and the US youth international admits it is something he has been working towards for most of his life.
Cervantes completed his move to Scotland last week, making the bench for the under-18s as they returned to action against Kilmarnock, hailing his new home as a “great place to be for any young footballer.”
The teen represented his country at the under-17 World Cup in 2019 as the US finished bottom of their group in Brazil and told how a move to Europe was always “part of the plan” for the highly-rated shot-stopper.
After originally having a stint on trial with the Light Blues, Cervantes impressed enough to earn a permanent contract as he recalled the day he signed as the “best feeling in the world.”
“The trial period was awesome, getting to see the facilities and see what my goal was for that year,” Cervantes told Rangers TV.
“I think it is a great place to be for a young footballer.
“It was the best feeling in the world to sign for the club, my whole family was proud of me. I had worked towards it for the whole year so to come over here and sign was a good feeling.
“When I signed with Orange County we talked about going to Europe. It has always been part of the plan so I don’t think it was too big of a change for me, I think it was expected almost because I have been working towards it for almost my whole life.”
