Arsenal’s move to sign Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale could now cost them more than £32million in an eye-watering deal.

That’s according to The Times, who claim that Arsenal have now failed with not one, but two bids for Ramsdale with Sheffield United standing firm.

Ramsdale still has three years left on his contract with the Blades, and they want a hefty profit on the £18.5million they paid Bournemouth for him last year.

Arsenal are allegedly pushing so hard for Ramsdale because they think Bernd Leno could leave this summer, and they want Ramsdale to be challenging for the No 1 jersey.

It’s now over to the Gunners and whether they want to meet that huge asking price.

Ramsdale has received criticism for two successive relegations and conceding a huge 125 Premier League goals in his last two seasons.

Ramsdale did though earn a spot in England’s Euro 2020 squad and still has real potential at the age of just 23, even if the current verdict is that he was ‘unconvincing’ last season, according to pundit Sue Smith.

You would have to question the wisdom of selling Emiliano Martinez for £20million only to then sign Ramsdale for £32million a year later, but Arsenal do need a goalkeeper.

Marcus Bettinelli for free or Ramsdale for £32million? That’s now a choice that may now be facing Edu this summer.
