Former Celtic defender Ramon Vega has explained to Sky Sports News HQ today (20/10/16) his shock at the mistakes made by Kolo Toure for Celtic in the Champions League last night.

Celtic lost their fixture with Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 with Toure making mistakes for both goals scored by the opponents.

He decided to try and keep the ball in play when he should have cleared and then misplaced a pass as Lars Stindl and Andre Hahn scored the goals that took the Bundesliga side to glory.

Toure has looked a good signing for Celtic by Brendan Rodgers so far but last night v Gladbach was certainly one to forget.

It certainly surprised former Swiss international Vega. The 45-year-old spent half a season on loan at Celtic during his career – making a big impact whilst with the Bhoys.

He had this to say about Toure’s nightmare performance:

“I think that Toure’s mistake, a quality player I have always followed him and a good addition to the Celtic team, I was quite surprised with his performance.

“Seeing what they did against Manchester City, a great performance there, I would have thought against Monchengladbach they would have had the same performance or better.

“Didn’t happen. That’s a disappointment.”

Whilst Toure has been good for Celtic so far he certainly does have a history and habit of making big mistakes.

He is also a defender who takes risks and can succeed when he does so. He is a player that suits Brendan Rodgers style of play and whilst this was bad night at the office the Celtic boss is very likely to stand by his man.
