The Southampton boss was understandably delighted with his side’s win over Tottenham at the weekend.

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s superb win over Tottenham on Saturday, and shared what he told his players in the build-up to the match at St Mary’s, as quoted by the Daily Echo.

The Saints now sit in 16th spot in the Premier League table, but they remain just two points clear of the drop zone – something that highlights just how important Saturday’s win over Spurs was.

Southampton still have a lot of work to do, if they are to avoid relegation this season, but their performance against Tottenham will give the players, manager and the fans a huge boost of confidence heading into the final eight games.

Hasenhüttl spoke to reporters after the 2-1 win, and shared what he told his players both before and after the game, as quoted by the Daily Echo:

“We lost against Man United 3-2 after a really sensational game we played there. We only earned warm words and I said to them we want to earn more than warm words. We want to earn points for what we were doing.”

“It was a moment to celebrate with them but also to tell them it is only one step. A big one maybe, but if you see the other results we still have wins to take and a long way to go.”

Southampton now have three weeks off until they play again – a trip to Brighton and Hove Albion on March 30th, and they must ensure that they match their efforts from Saturday’s win over Spurs, if they are to have any chance of leaving the Amex Arena with all three points.
