The Southampton youngster was really impressive against Burnley on Saturday.

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl spoke to reporters after his side’s draw with Burnley at the weekend, and offered high words of praise for Callum Slattery, suggesting that the youngster is like a new signing for the football club, as quoted by the Daily Echo.
The Saints failed to sign anyone during the January transfer window – something that angered the club’s fans, especially combined with the fact that there were numerous outgoings from St Mary’s, including Manolo Gabbiadini, Steven Davis and Cedric Soares.
Southampton are far from safe from the threat of relegation, with just two points and two places separating themselves from the relegation zone.
Hasenhüttl didn’t seem worried, when speaking to reporters, however, highlighting how he has plenty of good young players to chose from, singling out Slattery, 19, in particular for praise, as quoted by the Daily Echo:

“I know there were some voices that said ‘we don’t sign players in the transfer period’ but we played with a lot of young players and Callum Slattery had his first game in the Premier League. We have a lot of new players signed from our own youth team and Slat is another one of the good young guys in our club.”
The Austrian’s words will be a huge boost to the teenager’s confidence, and he will surely be given plenty more opportunities before the season is finished to prove himself.
And Southampton fans will find out a lot about Slattery between now and May…as will Hasenhüttl.
