Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the RB Leipzig ace.
RB Leipzig mancher Ralf Rangnick spoke exclusively to Buli News about the future of Timo Werner, and suggested that Liverpool might not be the best place for the German to improve.
German publication Sport Bild claimed last month that the Reds were tracking the 22-year-old forward, with a view to making a summer bid for the forward.
Werner has been in fine form for Leipzig this season, chalking up 13 goals and three assists in 23 appearances in all competitions in Germany, and he is one of the most highly-rated young forwards on the continent.
He would be a great addition for Liverpool, but is Anfield the right place for him to develop? Not according to Rangnick.
The 60-year-old too Buli News how Werner should be wary of a switch to Merseyside, considering how much Naby Keita has struggled since making the same move in the summer:
“Keita was an outstanding player here, but he’s still struggling in Liverpool. So far, he’s not the player there that he was here. The surroundings must be right for Timo. That’s the case here.”
Bild report that with Werner’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2020, Leipzig could be tempted to cash in on the forward, and would expect around £53.8 million for his services.
Whether Liverpool will be prepared to pay that amount, however, remains to be seen.
