Liverpool have been strongly linked with RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner of late.

Jurgen Klopp undoubtedly has a world-class front three at his disposal. Still, adding one more attacker to support Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino should be a priority.

A number of names have been linked, from Milot Rashica to Kylian Mbappe, but Werner has been the strongest rumour so far.

Sky Sports recently reported that the Leipzig star wants a move to Liverpool, but the Reds aren’t planning to activate his £52million release clause.

The Guardian have since added that Liverpool have communicated to Werner’s entourage that they need more time to decide on a move.

That’s certainly understandable. Liverpool need to plan carefully given the global pandemic, and big-money moves may be difficult now.

Liverpool may hope to tempt Leipzig into selling for less than the £52million clause, but a move is up in the air at this point.

The 24-year-old has experience of playing in a high-pressing system, and his record of 27 goals and 12 assists this season show what a productive attacker Werner can be.

Now, Red Bull’s head of sports and development Ralf Rangnick – Werner’s former manager – has told Bild that he doesn’t the league is important in the striker’s next move, but thinks Liverpool is the ideal fit for him in terms of style of play.

“The league is less important. But the club… from a purely hypothetical point of view, I would better see him in good hands with a club that is not necessarily defined by ball possession football.”

“His most important weapons, however, are the quick switch-over movement and his powerful finish. Therefore, he would rather fit a club like Liverpool, which is similar to our style of play. But I would prefer him to stay here,” he added.
