Manchester United interim-manager Ralf Rangnick has suggested to The Mirror that he would have liked the Red Devils to sign Luis Diaz before he moved to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the January transfer window.
Rangnick has said that Diaz, who joined Liverpool from FC Porto for £37 million, could have been an option for Manchester United.
The German has said that he wanted to sign a striker, but his wish was not granted.
Ralf Rangnick wanted Liverpool’s Luis Diaz at Manchester United
Rangnick told The Mirror: “We lost three strikers, long-term. We should have tried to sign a player in the 48 hours we had, since we knew Mason wouldn’t be available and Anthony had already left on loan.
“We were also aware Edinson might not be available for eight out of 10 games, but we didn’t do it. There were a few: Diaz, who is now at LIverpool, Alvarez, who will be at Manchester City in the summer; and Vlahovic, who at the time was still with Fiorentina.
“The answer was ‘no’ and that was it. I spoke to the board and told them ‘shouldn’t we at least speak and analyse and find if we can at least get a player, on loan or a permanent deal?’ In the end the answer was ‘no’.”

Anfield hero
Diaz has been superb for Liverpool since his move from Porto, and we are not surprised to hear Rangnick namecheck him as a potential signing for Manchester United in January.
The £56,000-a-week winger (This is Anfield/Pedro Sepulveda) has hit the ground running at Liverpool and has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.
The Colombia international winger has scored three goals and given two assists in eight Premier League starts for Liverpool.
The 25-year-old winger has also scored two goals and provided one assist in three Champions League starts for the Reds.
In our opinion, Diaz would have been a brilliant signing for Manchester United in January.
United’s loss has been Liverpool’s gain.
