RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano is being linked with a host of clubs – and Ralf Rangnick has now offered his view on the centre back.

Rangnick discovered Upamecano at Valenciennes back in 2015, taking him to Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg via feeder club FC Liefering.

Rangnick was a key figure in Red Bull’s recruitment in recent years, and it was no great surprise when Upamecano was sold to RB Leipzig in 2017.

The 22-year-old has excelled in Germany, and now has three France caps to his name as he begins to make an impact on the international stage too.

Upamecano is now being strongly linked with a move away from Leipzig, with Liverpool being touted as a possible destination.

The Reds are in the market for a new centre back in January having seen both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez go down with big knee injuries.

The Sunday World claim that Leipzig are now expecting Liverpool to make a January bid for Upamecano, with around £40million needed.

Rangnick has now offered his view to Sport1, suggesting that Upamecano could instead end up at Bayern Munich as they have seen first hand that nobody can run away from him in the final third, and he is such a dominant presence – all of which means Liverpool may face a battle.

“You can assume that Bayern know this player well,” said Rangnick. “Is Upamecano ready for Bavaria? Why not? Physically, Bayern have already seen in direct duels: ‘Nobody will run away,’” he added.
