In comments reported by The Scottish Sun, Raith Rovers boss John McGlynn has suggested that he would like to extend Regan Hendry’s loan from Celtic, and is hoping that the two clubs can soon begin talks over a further deal.

Hendry joined the League One side for a second time in September and is currently set to stay until midway through the January transfer window.

Injury has restricted the 20-year-old to just four appearances for Raith, with his most recent outing coming back in October. However, the Hoops youngster has impressed with three assists in those games.

And McGlynn – who was also talking about the future of fellow loanee Callum Crane – insisted that he would like to agree a longer stay with Celtic ahead of the end of his current spell next month.

“These things work three ways – Raith Rovers and myself might have a plan, Callum and Regan might have a plan, and Celtic and Livingston might have a plan,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun. “If it comes together that the three parties can work something out then these lads might be here for the second half of the season.

“There are discussions that are going to happen from now until January to see what we can do. But we would obviously like to keep these lads, because they’ve done very well.”

It is difficult to see Celtic having too many qualms about allowing Hendry to stay at Raith. He is unlikely to get a look-in at Parkhead anytime soon, so his development would arguably be best served getting minutes elsewhere.

And if he can enjoy a good run of luck when it comes to his fitness and continues to make a contribution in the final third, then perhaps he may be one of the youngsters who finds himself on the periphery of Brendan Rodgers’ thoughts ahead of next season.
