Tom Huddlestone makes worrying Cantwell claim amid rumoured Leeds talk

Tom Huddlestone has told the Football Show on Sky Sports (13/10/20 at 11:10 am) that he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if reported Leeds target Todd Cantwell leaves before Friday’s deadline.

But the current free-agent did worryingly claim that Daniel Farke questioning the Norwich man’s ‘attitude’ in recent weeks would ‘raise eyebrows’ for potential suitors.

The Daily Star has linked Leeds United’s name with Cantwell and how the Premier League club could sign him this week – the played was dubbed ‘exceptional’ by former striker Chris Sutton on BBC Rado Five Live in June.

Amid the talk of Cantwell’s future, Huddlestone advised the quick-footed playmaker to ‘knuckle down’ and help his club.

“There are only a few days left,” Huddlestone told Sky Sports. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he was to go. But his manager coming out and publicly questioning his attitude in training and subsequently leaving him out of the squad the following game would raise a lot of eyebrows for Premier League suitors.

“It could be one of them, from his point of view, he sees a few of his teammates that have left already. And I am not sure that he has had much interest, but he probably feels that after doing so well in a struggling team last year that he deserves to be let go to a PL club again.

“But at the age, he has to knuckle down and if now move was to materialise then he has to put himself in the best situation possible to get Norwich back in the Premier League at the first opportunity.”

Cantwell hasn’t been a part of Norwich’s matchday squad for a number of weeks now and it has to be unsettling for a buying club that he’s not playing.

It’s understandable if he’s not playing because they are trying to get a deal done, but going by Farke’s recent actions, it’s quite clear there is more than that.

There’s no doubt that Cantwell, with his ability to carry the ball, fill those pockets in the final third and score a goal, would be useful to this workman-like, aggressive and gung-ho Leeds team.
