Raheem Sterling: This is where I need to improve for Liverpool

The 19-year-old has identified two key areas in which he needs to better himself this season.

You could forgive Raheem Sterling for being happy with his progress at the tender age of 19.

For one so young, the Liverpool star has already achieved so much and is, arguably, both the Reds’ and England’s most creative talent.

But Sterling wants more – and it is that attitude that might explain why he is where he is right now.

Indeed, the young forward has vowed to score more goals and create more opportunities for his team-mates this season, pledging to do everything he can in order to achieve his goals.

When asked what his personal targets for the coming campaign are, Sterling told FourFourTwo:

“To play regular football and achieve my personal goals, which are to score more goals and create opportunities for my team-mates. I’ll do everything I can to achieve this.

“We should definitely be aiming to be challenging for the title come the end of the season. Yes, we lost to City but we have to keep working, developing and trying to win games as we did last year.

“Some of the players like myself, Philippe [Coutinho] and Jordan [Henderson] have to chip in with more goals, and if we can do that we can be right up there at the end of the season.”

As Opta stats show, Sterling was Liverpool’s fourth-highest goalscorer in the Premier League last season.

But the England man failed to reach double figures, unlike Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, while he also created less chances than captain Gerrard, Suarez, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson.

That statistic comes despite Sterling winning more dribbles than anyone else except Uruguay and now Barcelona striker Suarez.
