The Reds secured their first title in the Premier League era last month, with City set to finish second in the standings.
Pep Guardiola’s side had won the league title for the past two seasons, but the Citizens failed to compete with Jurgen Klopp’s team for most of the 2019-20 campaign.
Sterling has admitted that it was “difficult” for him to see Liverpool win the title this season, but the former Anfield player – who can also operate as a winger – has said that the Merseyside outfit deserved it.
Sterling told Sky Sports: “It is difficult seeing Liverpool take the title from us, but they have been brilliant all year. They have been fantastic and deserved to win the league.”
Next season will be massive
Liverpool have been head and shoulders above the rest of the teams in the Premier League this season, but the Reds will face massive challenge during the 2020-21 campaign.
City are likely to come back stronger and more determined than ever to stop Liverpool, while the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are likely to challenge for the title as well.
However, the Reds could make some good signings in the summer transfer window and get even better.
