Manchester City star Raheem Sterling speaks highly of Liverpool.
Traditionally City’s main rivals have been neighbours United, but Sterling, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, has suggested that it is now Liverpool that fans at the Etihad Stadium are mot worried about.
Liverpool finished just a point behind champions City in the Premier League table, while the Red Devils could not even up in the top four.
Sterling, who joined City from Liverpool in the summer of 2015 for an initial transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £44 million, was a key figure for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists in 31 Premier League starts, according to WhoScored.
The England international told The Mirror: “Every time we play Liverpool now, that’s when the stadium is at its loudest, the fans are roaring,
“The game against Liverpool at home, I don’t want to sound arrogant, but we did say as a group that if we win that game then we can still have a chance of winning this title race. It was a must-win game for us.
“We knew how high the stakes were and you realise this is getting serious now, it’s crunch time now and I’m just grateful that we were able to get over the line.”
Sterling’s aforementioned comments will make Liverpool fans proud, as they show just how far the Reds have come under manager Jurgen Klopp that arguably one of the best club sides of all time in England see them as genuine challenges.
The 24-year-old’s comments will worry fans of United, with the Red Devils have fallen quite behind City and are even unable to challenge for the league title these days.
