The EFL Cup has been Manchester City’s competition for the past few seasons, and now Pep Guardiola’s side have a new star as Cole Palmer bagged his first goal for the senior team.
The 19-year-old midfielder has long been touted as an exceptional talent that has been brewing in City’s academy. And last night, we got a glimpse as to why Palmer is so highly rated as the teenager scored a stunning goal.
With the game already at 5-1 to City, the England youth star embarked on a stunning run starting from his own half and slotted the ball past the Wycombe Wanderers keeper with perfect precision.
It was a brilliant way to introduce yourself to the Etihad crowd as Palmer brought City fans to their feet with his excellent goal. The midfielder was one of many youth graduates to start against Wycombe.
Indeed, Phil Foden also found his way onto the scoresheet with a thunderous effort from distance. Whilst Romeo Lavia looked impressive on his first-team debut for City.
But it was Palmer and his solo goal that supporters on social media were raving about post-match. Even if it was nothing but a sixth goal to a cricket score, the quality of the strike was hard to beat.

Palmer could well be the next talent to make the definitive leap from youth academy to first-team squad, and his goal last night proved that Guardiola has a youngster of immense potential on his hands.
Here’s what some City fans had to say about Palmer’s goal on Twitter…
