Everton fans have taken to Twitter in disbelief after they found out that Gareth Southgate hadn’t included Michael Keane in his England squad.

The main source of frustration seems to be that Tottenham’s Eric Dier – who hasn’t had the best campaign – is in, whereas the Toffees man is not.

Keane – who Ronald Koeman signed for £25 million in 2017 – has started 25 of the club’s 28 Premier League games this season.

He’s become a key player under Carlo Ancelotti, and has also netted a respectable three goals this term.

Keane’s efforts have helped Everton into seventh, where they sit just five points away from Chelsea, who occupy fourth.

Surely, if the Everton No.5 can help the Toffees into the Champions League, Southgate has to take him to the European Championships.

In Dier’s case, he made costly errors against Liverpool and Chelsea at the start of the year, before Jose Mourinho dropped him in February as the Telegraph documented.

In Keane’s case, he has done no wrong really, and at least deserves a place in Southgate’s squad.

Hopefully, this can work in Everton’s favour.

How so? Well, Keane may be feeling disappointed about this news, and could take his form up a gear in order to make Southgate’s squad for EURO 2021.

Let’s see what the Everton fans on Twitter have been saying…
