Rangers currently sit in second position in the Scottish Premiership table.

During an exclusive interview with Scottish media outlet STV News, Rangers right-back James Tavernier admitted that he deserved to be dropped by manager Mark Warburton for his side’s home game against Aberdeen on Saturday.

Warburton opted to bring Lee Hodson into the starting line-up, and his decision seemed to be a significant one, with his Gers side facing such a crucial game against Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen.

The 25-year-old explained how his manger’s decision was entirely understandable though, during an interview with STV News, and highlighted his intention to work even harder now, in order to prove himself to Warburton:

“I know that my performance against Hearts was under normal for me so it was a definite wake-up call. You’ve got to utilise the squad if the team’s not performing so if I’m not performing then I don’t expect to be in the team. I wouldn’t want to be in the team if I’m not performing. I’ve been training really hard this week and hopefully I can get back into the team.”

With such a busy schedule ahead for Rangers, that includes five league games over a 21 day period, Warburton will be hoping that the competition for places currently present amongst the squad will be key for his side, as he will undoubtedly have to continue to rotate in order to maintain the freshness of his players.

Next up for the Glasgow giants is another huge test, as they prepare to host fourth placed Hearts tomorrow in the Scottish Premiership.
