Nottingham Forest couldn’t wait to see the back of Algerian striker Rafik Djebbour, the Championship side cancelling his contract after half a season.
There’s a reason why Nottingham Forest fans were so thrilled about the appointment of Frank MacParland as the club’s new director of football back in the spring.
MacParland is one of the most respected talentspotters in the English game – and recruitment was an area in which Forest have let themselves down hugely in the last few years.
And, above all, Rafik Djebbour perhaps sums up Forest’s rather unhelpful habit of signing players who not only appeared well below the standard expected of the Championship but also seemed completely uninterested with life at the City Ground.
Djebbour looked a good signing on paper when he rocked up in the East Midlands in the winter of 2014. The Algerian international had scored 39 goals in 56 league games for Olympiakos after all while winning three Super League titles.
His spell at Forest, however, is perhaps best remembered for being dropped by caretaker manager Gary Brazil for a lack of effort in training. Just six months and seven games into his two-and-a-half year deal, Djebbour’s contract was terminated.
Though at least he lasted longer at Forest than he has at his most recent club. As reported by The Nottingham Post, Djebbour has bid farewell to French amateur side Marseilles-Consolat.
The club’s fans probably aren’t shedding too many tears, however. Djebbour played just twice, totalling 23 minutes and his two-year contract, which was only signed in October, has been ripped up already.
Good riddance… again.
