Newcastle United are looking to target English players, upon their return to the Premier League.

Rafael Benitez’s early transfer plans at Newcastle United appear to hint at the strategy he has put in place at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle’s promotion to the Premier League was confirmed last night, but the preparation began long ago.
Benitez has been identifying transfer targets for Newcastle for some time – with a number of new additions planned.
And the early links seem to suggest that Benitez has already formulated a strategy to help Newcastle compete back at Premier League level.
Newcastle are interested in signing Tom Cairney, Jay Rodriguez and Ryan Shawcross (Daily Mail) – with a common trend appearing.
Newcastle appear to want to add more English players to their squad, to ensure that they can hit the ground running.
Many clubs tend to avoid the English market, feeling it can be overpriced, but Newcastle appear not to want to take any risks.

The Magpies know all too well how searching across Europe can backfire. Just look at the disastrous transfers of the likes of Florian Thauvin and Emmanuel Riviere in recent times.
Benitez’s tactic is clearly to go for a more tried and tested approach this time around, with Newcastle evidently not wanting to take any more gambles over their Premier League status.
