Rafael Benitez’s three-word response when asked if Newcastle United have money to spend

Newcastle United have made just three signings so far this summer.

Rafael Benitez has made a rather cutting remark to the Northern Echo, when asked if Newcastle United actually have money to spend this summer.

Newcastle have brought in three new players so far, but Martin Dubravka is the only signing which has cost a fee.

There are concerns that Benitez simply hasn’t been given enough money from Mike Ashley to ensure that Newcastle are competitive again over the coming season.

And when asked whether Newcastle have money to spend, Benitez was fairly evasive.

He said: “Ask Lee Charnley.”

Benitez is likely to be frustrated with Newcastle’s business so far, as he made no secret of his desire to make additions.

The Magpies have missed out of a host of targets, and seem to be having to shop for bargains again.

Newcastle have most recently been linked with Fabian Schar and Salomon Rondon, who both are considered value for money signings by Benitez.
