Newcastle United are in danger of getting relegated.

Newcastle United’s record signing is still Michael Owen, with the former Liverpool striker joining the Magpies from Spanish and European giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The Sun to be worth £17 million.
The Magpies do not tend to spend a lot of money on players during transfer windows, and it has been the case even with Rafael Benitez as the manager.
Newcastle need to sign players in the January transfer window in order to boost their chances of escaping the dreaded drop to the Championship at the end of the season.
Will the Magpies spend big and sign someone who would cost more than £17m? Newcastle manager Benitez does not know.
When asked if he was ready to break Newcastle’s £17m transfer record Benitez told The Mirror: “I have no idea. We have to find the right players. Sometimes it is not about the money. Just the right players at the right time.”

Newcastle United struggles
Newcastle had run into some good form in recent weeks, but the Magpies were brought back down to earth at the weekend with an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to West Ham United at St. James’ Park in the Premier League.
Benitez’s side are 15th in the league table at the moment with 12 points from 14 matches, just three points above the relegation zone.
