Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles has not been distracted by speculation over his future.
Lascelles has been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks, with his performances attracting attention.
However, Benitez insists that Lascelles’ head has not been turned by the interest in him.
“He’s happy, training well, he’s improving, he’s focused,” Benitez said.
“You can’t stop speculation about players but I was talking with him for a while last week, the focus is just trying to improve his game.
“I think at the moment he knows he has to continue progressing and learning but he is quite happy here.”
Lascelles has become a real leader during his time at Newcastle, and his displays have been exemplary this season.
The commanding centre-back’s performances have been a major reason behind why Newcastle look destined to stay in the Premier League.
The Magpies have been in wonderful form of late, and now sit 10 points clear of the drop zone.
Newcastle have won their last three matches in succession, and they may feel they have a chance of extending that run at the weekend.
Benitez’s men are taking on an out-of-sorts Arsenal side at St. James’ Park on Sunday.
