Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is on the verge of selling the club to Amanda Staveley.

Rafael Benitez has told the Northern Echo that he wants to know his January transfer budget at Newcastle United as soon as possible.

Amanda Staveley is expected to buy Newcastle from Mike Ashley in the very near future, with Benitez set to have money to spend in January.

However, Benitez claims that he has not been told how much money he will have to invest when the transfer window opens again.

“I don’t have any information,” Benitez admitted. “I need to know how much money we will have for January as soon as possible, that is it but I have no information.”

Newcastle are known to want additions in January, as they have been caught short of quality this season.

The Magpies made a bright start to the campaign, but they have come unstuck more recently.

Newcastle are now on a winless run which stretches for eight matches, with concerns rising that they could be dragged into a relegation fight.

Newcastle are just one point above the drop zone now, and the business they do in January could be crucial to their survival chances.

The Daily Mail claim that Benitez will be given £30 million to spend by Staveley.
