Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has told the Chronicle that Kenedy knows his form has dropped.

Newcastle had Kenedy on loan last campaign and his performances were highly impressive.

However, the Brazilian has only been able to make a minimal impact at St. James’ Park this season.

And Benitez says that Kenedy has approached him to explain his below par performances.

“It is true that he is not playing at the level of last year, and sometimes players have confidence when they are doing things,” Benitez said.

“He told me the other day that he knew he was not playing well and these mistakes mean that he loses a bit of confidence.

“We tried to explain to him that the only way to change that is to carry on, and hopefully he will do that. He will stay; at the moment, I think so.”

Benitez’s last comment is in reference to the fact that if Newcastle terminated Kenedy’s loan they would be able to bring in another loan player from England.

Newcastle have used up their quota of loan players from fellow clubs in England so far, which puts Kenedy under pressure to improve.

If Kenedy does hit top form there is no question that he is one of Newcastle’s most dangerous attackers, but he needs to start performing sooner rather than later.

Newcastle are currently in 15th place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against Liverpool on Boxing Day.
