Newcastle United striker Yoshinori Muto may come under further pressure at St. James’ Park in the January transfer window, if Rafael Benitez gets his transfer wish.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle want to sign another striker in January, and that could put Muto’s first team chances into doubt.

Muto only arrived at Newcastle in the summer, but the Japanese forward has struggled to adapt so far.

While it would be foolish to write him off already, Muto does need to find his feet sooner rather than later.

If another striker arrives at Newcastle in January, then Muto could legitimately find himself as fourth choice by the new year.

Joselu has started this campaign fairly well, Salomon Rondon looks set to be Newcastle’s main man up-front and any new addition that Benitez makes is likely to be brought in to play.

Muto could, therefore, find his opportunities limited at St. James’ Park, if competition does hot up.

And Benitez’s plan puts further pressure on Muto to ensure that he is part of Newcastle’s first-team plans before the January transfer window starts up.
